Motor Vehicles Licenses
The State of Tennessee Department of Revenue mails registration renewal notices as a courtesy. The County Clerk's Office does not issue or mail this notice. If you did not receive a renewal notice in the mail, you will need to bring your current registration to the Clerk's office in Ashland City, Tennessee.
Vehicle renewals can now be processed on line here.
RENEWAL IN PERSON
Take your renewal notice you received in the mail from the State of Tennessee Department of Revenue to one of the following locations:

RENEWAL BY MAIL
To register by mail, send the notice you received in the mail from the State of Tennessee Department of Revenue, along with the correct renewal fees, plus $2.00 for postage to:

TITLE APPLICATION ISSUANCE
Title applications are processed at the Ashland City office ONLY.
Every new owner of a vehicle (private and Commercial) shall apply to the Cheatham County Clerk for the issuance of a Certificate of Registration. Collection of state and local sales taxes, where applicable, is done by this office when application is made.
You may download an Affidavit for Duplicate Certificate of Title online. This form must be accompanied by a copy of your Tennessee driver's license.

TO REGISTER A VEHICLE IF MOVING FROM OUT OF STATE
If you are moving here from another state and own your car, you will need the title, registration, and proof of Cheatham County address.
If your vehicle is financed you will need to provide the out of state registration, name and address of you lien holder.
**If your car is financed and titled in one of the following states, you must have your title:
- New York
- South Dakota
These states are not title holding states; the titles are mailed to the owner rather than the lien holder.
Permanent and Temporary Disabled/Handicapped Placards are processed at the Ashland City Office or by mail: (see mailing address at renewals). First time applicants must provide an Application for Disabled Person License Plate and/or Placard. A doctor must complete this application.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency has authorized the County Clerk's Office to register all boats. We collect the sales tax and complete the necessary boat registration documents for you to send to TWRA. All boats registered for the first time in the State of Tennessee may be subject to sales tax.
