Sheriff John Holder serves as the County's Head of Law Enforcement. He oversees a Department of 69 employees.

The Sheriff Department consist of:

• a Criminal Investigation Division consisting of 4 investigators
• Dare Officer that teaches a Drug Awareness Class to 5th graders
• 1 Civil Process Server
• 3 Sergeants
• 21 Patrol Officers
• Chief Deputy
• 2 Chain Gang Officers that oversees the prisoners that keep the Cheatham County roads clean
• 1 Administrative Assistant
• 5 Clerical Workers
• 4 Court Officers
• 1 Jail Administrator, and 25 Jailers.

The Sheriff also oversees a Jail Facility which consists of 120 beds.

The department has been very successful in applying and receiving grants to purchase:

• Live Scan Fingerprint Machine which sends fingerprints directly to the TBI
• Computers
• Officers Protective Vest
• Tasers
• Handheald Radios
• Overtime Pay for Officers
• A grant for the Amber Alert Computer.
